The Dutch Coastguard plays a vital role in safeguarding the North Sea, focusing on responsible use, safety and security, and upholding maritime law. Led by a Director who's a Royal Netherlands Navy officer, the Coastguard is managed by the Coastguard Fourmanship (KW4) under the guidance of a Coastguard Council. While its tasks encompass a wide range of functions for six ministries, border surveillance plays a critical role in maritime security. This includes working with various agencies like customs and the Navy to prevent smuggling, illegal immigration, and other border violations. Through constant vigilance and cooperation, the Dutch Coastguard helps maintain the integrity of the Netherlands' borders and ensure a safe and secure maritime environment.
